Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does “Effective Volume” mean?

A: The optimal volume, a particular dehumidifier can effectively dehumidify

Q: Where are Ebac dehumidifiers made?

A: The United Kingdom

Q: What is the difference between a ‘HVAC dehumidifier’ and a ‘Cleaning and Restoration dehumidifier’?

A: There are two major differences, the HVAC models all have humidistats (ability to dial your dryness, and all the C&R models have wheels and handles but no humidistat.

Q: What is a desiccant dehumidifier?

A: A desiccant dehumidifier is a device that employs a desiccant material to produce a dehumidification affect. The process involves exposing the desiccant material to a high relative humidity air stream, allowing it to attract and retain some of the water vapor and then exposing the same desiccants to a lower relative humidity air stream which has the affect of drawing the retained moisture from the desiccant.

Q: What is the difference between a desiccant dehumidifier and a refrigerant dehumidifier?

A: See question 4 for desiccant operation; as far as refrigerant dehumidification is concerned a fan draws moist air through the cold evaporator coil, which cools the air below its dew point. Moisture forms on the evaporator coil and is collected in the condensate tray. The cooled air then passes through the hot condenser coil where it is reheated using the same energy removed during the cooling phase, plus the additional heat generated by the compressor. The air is, therefore, discharged from the dehumidifier at a slightly higher temperature with a lower absolute humidity than when it entered.

Q: How do I know which Ebac dehumidifier is right for me?
